#BlogTour #Review – No Safe Home by @taralyonsauthor @bloodhoundbook #bloghounds

Detective Inspector Denis Hamilton is haunted when the suspicious death of a teenage girl triggers suppressed memories. With a stalker targeting vulnerable women in Central London, and his team rapidly diminishing, Hamilton must conquer his emotions before another family is destroyed.

In a sleepy town in Hertfordshire, Katy has worked hard to rebuild her life after leaving behind everything she knew. But when her past catches up with her, and her young son’s life is threatened, Katy must admit her true identity if she has any hope of surviving.

A home should be a safe place, shouldn’t it?

But sometimes it is hard to know who you can trust…

London’s murder investigations team returns in the second novel from the bestselling author of In the Shadows.

What does TWG think?

I need to admit something; I haven’t read Tara Lyon’s previous novel (and best-selling debut) ‘In The Shadows’, and judging by the reviews that are flying around for this book, I seem to be the only one that hasn’t! Sorry! This means that ‘No Safe Home’ is my debut read by Tara Lyons, trust me to be different eh!

Seeing as ‘No Safe Home’ is the second book of the DI Denis Hamilton series, I was a bit concerned that I wouldn’t be able to follow the storyline in case I had missed out a piece of the jigsaw by not reading the first book. However, that wasn’t the case as it read as a standalone (ideal if you’re new to this author).
I must admit, the storyline scared me half to death as after reading it I ran around my house like a mad woman, ensuring all the doors were locked. Even AS I was reading the novel the slightest noise in my house made me jump; safe to say that I was a tad on edge reading this one!

DI Denis Hamilton is involved in solving a murder & threats of life which involve mothers and young children. As a mother of a young child myself, I did find it quite harrowing to read, especially as Katy’s fears sent shivers up and down my spine. Your home is meant to be your safe haven and your own personal bubble!

‘No Safe Home’ had me hooked from the very beginning; I just KNEW that I was going to be in for a bumpy ride. I am impressed at how the author managed to keep the spine tingling moments flowing throughout the entire storyline without faltering. ‘No Safe Home’ did unnerve me a lot more than I was expecting it to and it did take me a few days to stop checking all of the doors in my house! That said, Tara Lyons has executed a harrowing and intense storyline with such power and depth and even though I was pretty frightened, I may even end up reading her next book as I love her writing style.

Thank you Bloodhound Books!

#Blogtour! While You Were Sleeping by Kathryn Croft (@KatCroft) @Bookouture #Review

TWG is one of two blogs that are rounding up Kathryn Croft’s blog tour today, for ‘While You Were Sleeping’, published by Bookouture! Sniff!! I am thrilled to be surrounded by such fabulous bloggers on the tour, thank you Bookouture for asking me to be involved! So, lets get on with the review shall we?!

You wake up to find the man beside you is dead.  He is not your husband. This is not your bed.   Tara Logan adores her perfect little family: husband, Noah, and two children, teenager Rosie and eleven-year-old Spencer.   But her happiness is shattered when she wakes in her neighbour, Lee Jacobs’ bed, with no memory of how she got there or what happened between them. And worse – he has been stabbed to death.  Convinced she didn’t kill Lee, Tara flees home and stays silent, holding her breath as the investigation grips the neighbourhood. But as her daughter spirals out of control, and her husband becomes increasingly distant, Tara starts to wonder if someone in her own life knows what really happened that night. And when the police turn their questions towards her, Tara realises she has to find out.   But what will it take to uncover the real story, and can she survive the truth?

What does TWG think?

If anyone wants me I’ll be hiding under the duvet where its safe -trembles-. Wait, no I won’t…it’s not safe under there! Shout me when its safe to come out, okay?

Yes, I may sound like a wuss but when you usually read about couples having loving dovey moments between the sheets; reading a book where there is a dead man (between the sheets) can leave you checking your bed for ogres before you sleep! Well, it certainly did for me anyway! As soon as I finished reading the prologue, my arms were covered in goosebumps and my interest had reached its maximum level. I was intrigued yet slightly nervous for what I was about to uncover.

Tara has woken up to find a man in her bed, a man who isn’t her husband. Uh-oh. It gets worse as the man laying next to her is dead, and Tara has no idea how she got there let alone how HE got there. As for the death, who the hell did do it if Tara believes that it wasn’t her?

Such a twisty, rollercoaster of a read, I read the majority of the book with only one question in my mind; ‘whodunit?’. Characters behaviours seemed to change at the drop of the hat, yet it didn’t seem enough to pin the murder on them. I tried to work it out, but every time I believed to have found the answer and put the puzzle pieces together it seemed as though I was barking up the wrong tree.

Unfortunately, I did find the storyline a bit hard to gel with in some places as several situations had me thinking ‘hmm reallyyyy?’ and not quite relevant. However, the way Kathryn has written the suspense parts of the book is really clever. I felt like my head was getting messed with as I didn’t know who to believe! Every character seemed to have an ulterior motive but I couldn’t quite put my finger on exactly what that was.

‘While You Were Sleeping’ most definitely kept me on my toes and made me realise that I would never, ever make it as an investigator in cases like the one in the book! I’d be too indecisive, reading Kathryn’s book taught me that, that’s for sure!

An intense, highly gripping, head screwing of a read, ‘While You Were Sleeping’ will leave you questioning your own name. Great read!

Blog Tour! Review – ‘I Know Your Secret’ by Graham Smith(@GrahamSmith1972) @caffeinenights

It’s my turn on the fiercely popular blog tour for Mr Graham Smith and ‘I Know Your Secret’! I personally think that he should go whispering that in people’s ears…I mean, how scary would that be?

“What would you do if your most intimate secrets got into the wrong hands?”

Set in modern day Cumbria, I Know Your Secret is a police thriller in which a priest is found crucified to the stone floor of his church. Fearing more attacks on the clergy, DI John Campbell and his team of misfits race to find the killer before he strikes again.

Meanwhile, DI Harry Evans, spends his days attending the trial of his wife’s rapist and his nights interfering in the investigation.

Can they catch the killer before he strikes again?

What does TWG think?

Wowza, what an opening! How can you NOT want to read on after that? As you’re already aware, I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to books like this, but I do enjoy stepping into another genre. A bit like Narnia really; everyone knows of it, but nobody knows the truth depth of what lies beneath the surface.

Well, I thought they didn’t…until this book. I decided to read the book at night time, whilst’s not advisable, trust me. I felt as though I was on a rollercoaster ride the whole way through as I was digging my nails into the edge of my sofa, my eyes unable to move from the story.

A lot of unfortunate and eye opening events happen all the way through, as well as re-living certain terrifying tales in the courtroom. But, the crime team involved in finding out ‘whodunnit’ is a team that you most certainly will not find anywhere else. Think of the team in Life on Mars, but add extra guts and more meaty crimes and you’ll have Graham’s team. They kept the momentum of the story level enough for me to continue reading without being too much of a wuss.

Don’t get me wrong, I still read some of the book between my fingers but after a while of feeling as though I was missing out on vital information being a wuss, I thought stuff it. Curiosity killed the cat (or priest in this instance, although I reckon he was more than curious!), I wanted to know EVERYTHING.

Graham Smith most certainly kept me on my toes the whole way through as there was SO much information to take in but it all came together rather well! Nail biting, sofa gripping, whirlwind of a storyline; thanks to Graham Smith I am now on the dark side!

Thank you to Caffeine Nights & co for my ARC.
