Happy e-book publication day to, Gillian McAllister, and the absolutely fabulous, ‘No Further Questions’. Big thank you to MichaelJBooks and Jenny Platt for the blog tour invite and the ARC of the book. Here is my review:
The stunning new thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Everything but the Truth and Anything You Do Say
The police say she’s guilty.
She insists she’s innocent.
She’s your sister.
You loved her.
You trusted her.
But they say she killed your child.
Who do you believe?
Original, devilishly clever and impossible to forget, this is a thriller with a difference. You won’t be able to tear yourself away from the trial that will determine both sisters’ fates.
What does TWG think?
Holllllyyyyyyyy schmollllyyyyy!!!!! I’m just going to lay my cards on the table now and admit this one, teeny tiny detail; my review won’t do this book justice in the slightest. I know, I know – I wish it would do but I truly believe that there aren’t enough positive words to describe just how mind-blowingly fabulous ‘No Further Questions’ is.
This goosebump inducing novel tells the story of two sisters and their chalk and cheese lifestyles. On the outside, one sister has the ‘perfect life’ in every way possible, yet on the inside it couldn’t be further from the truth. Yet for the other sister, on the outside she is seen to be unpolished and absent-minded, whereas she is holding onto feelings that might just cost her everything in her life that she has ever loved. One day, family relationships are tested when the sisters go head to head to find out the truth about the night where lives were changed for ever. Never mind ‘No Further Questions’, if you’re anything like me, the questions will just keep on coming…
I know of people who have cried whilst reading this book – I didn’t. Instead my body broke into two and I felt bereft by the events my eyes were digesting. My eyes may not have actually leaked tears, but my body felt the emotion in other ways. I couldn’t stop shaking. I couldn’t move, and my mind refused to think logically. All I knew at that moment was that I had to find out the truth, even if I had no idea who to believe. How can you believe anyone that seems to be a wolf in sheep clothing?
I’ll be honest (when am I not?). I was a nervous wreck whilst reading ‘No Further Questions’. The setting of the book added to that anxious feeling as everything felt incredibly real – it was as though I was sitting where the public sits, watching everyone’s lives be pulled apart by experts in the field. I even began questioning the other sister’s actions, even though she wasn’t the one in the spotlight. Hell, if someone had said out loud to me that my name is Kaisha, I would have looked at them like they had two heads, being all ‘ERRRRRRRRRR WHA?!’, even though that is my name.
Gillian McAllister is fantastic at drip feeding her readers information which left me wanting more after every chapter, with the only option being to read more of the book. I couldn’t believe how flawless the storyline moulded between characters and timeframes, raising the level of suspense higher and higher with every character change.
‘No Further Questions’ is hands done, one of the best thrillers I think I have ever read. As far as I am concerned, the author nailed the suspense elements, especially as there were times where I felt as though I was being drenched in freezing cold water. I can only assume that that was to do with the shock factors that took over the novel from the very start! I’m certainly not complaining though, that’s for sure!
What an outstanding, gripping and chilling novel, ‘No Further Questions’ is. I am in awe at Gillian McAllister’s FANTASTIC story telling. I have a feeling that a binge buy of her previous novels is going to be happening pretty soon. Hellloooooo new favourite author!!
Cracking, cracking read!
