Today is the third and final day of H.A.Leuschel’s blog blitz for ‘My Sweet Friend’, and I have the pleasure of sharing my review of the book. Big thanks, as always, to RaRaResources for the blog blitz invite and the ARC.

MSF 2D High Res
A stand-alone novella from the author of Manipulated Lives

A perfect friend … or a perfect impostor?

Alexa is an energetic and charismatic professional and the new member of a Parisian PR
company where she quickly befriends her colleagues Rosie and Jack. She brings a much-
needed breath of fresh air into the office and ambitiously throws herself into her new job and friendships.

But is Alexa all she claims to be?

As her life intertwines with Rosie and Jack’s, they must all decide what separates truth from fiction. Will the stories that unfold unite or divide them? Can first impressions ever be trusted?

In this original novella, H.A. Leuschel evokes the powerful hold of appearances and what a person is prepared to do to keep up the facade. If you like thought-provoking and compelling reads with intriguing characters, My Sweet Friend is for you.

What does TWG think?

I do like a novella I must admit. I like the fact that I am able to dip my toes into a story without having to commit myself to a full length novel, especially if I’m not in the mood for anything heavy. However, I am not liking that this was a novella because I was so engrossed in the storyline, that when it ended I was gutted because I could have quite happily read more!

Alexa is the type of colleague that everyone looks up to. She has the energy, the drive, the poise, and the look for people to try to follow in her footsteps without even realising. Or so she likes to think. Whilst two of Alexa’s new colleagues are in awe of their new member of staff, one colleague has had card marked already. But why? She hasn’t done anything wrong, has she?

Looks can be deceiving for sure. With the right outfit and look, people are given instant confidence they never realised they had, allowing them to pretend to be someone who they’re not. If you look the part, you’re bound to feel the part. Whilst Alexa certainly has the looks and the gift of the gab, her work ethic leaves a lot to be desired, especially when she knows how to spin things in her favour.

Like Rosie, I was taken in by Alexa at first but, as more of the pages were turned, it didn’t take long for the light to shine differently on Alexa. Obviously I won’t say too much about what happened in the story, but I can say that it is so gritty and gripping, I hope Alexa’s story gets extended as I feel that she has so much more up her sleeve and, whilst she annoyed me something chronic, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her personality.

I would love to find out more about Rosie as well and whether things with her mother became easier to handle.

‘My Sweet Friend’ is such an intriguing, mind twisting, and gripping read which highlighted just how much hold appearances have over friends or foe. A highly recommended, brilliant read.
