Successful entrepreneur, Ross Spalding, has everything to live for; a thriving business, a stunning new home, and a high society wedding to his beautiful fiancée to look forward to in the coming months. That is, until his life comes to an abrupt, gruesome end.
DI Hero Nelson and his team need to dig deep to find the reasons behind someone wanting Ross Spalding dead. As more people connected to Ross also die, some in suspicious circumstances, the suspect list grows beyond all expectations, until a major clue presents itself and spins the investigation off in a totally new direction.
However, Hero’s personal life is also dealt a major blow when his parents are faced with a life or death situation. He is forced to put his personal problems aside when the murderers are revealed and Hero is faced with a tight deadline in which to apprehend them.
What does TWG think?
Seeing as ‘Double Jeopardy’ is part of a book serial, I was relieved to be able to read it rather well as a standalone novel. That said, there were moments where I went ‘huh?’ as I felt I was missing something. Luckily, it didn’t deter me from the overall book and I was able to finish reading it fairly comfortably.
What a gritty, nail-biting read! Nion straight away we are faced with an unexplained death and, just like many others, there is a lot more to this death that meets the eye. Who wanted this guy dead? Why did they want him dead? Why has his death now set off a domino effect of further deaths? So many questions, a whole investigation to answer them.
Reading Comley’s new novel, I felt as though I was in the middle of a high-speed police chase! The pace in which Comley has set her storyline was absolutely bang on; not too fast, not too slow – the perfect accompaniment to a ‘dun dun dunnnnn’ type storyline.
Even though a lot of the story is taken up with the investigation, the author still managed to delve into Hero’s personal life and make him seem like ‘one of us’. Honestly? All of the characters in Comley’s novel came across as being ‘one of us’, as though I knew them in person. I was impressed at the authors capability of making her characters stand out like real people and not like a collection of words on paper.
‘Double Jeopardy’ kept my attention from the very beginning, whilst also make my heart rate soar until the very end.
An exciting, intense, nail-biting novel from the extremely talented, M.A.Comley. I don’t think I’ll be forgetting about this book in a hurry!
A note from the author.
