Emi Harrison has avoided her ex-fiance, Jack Cabot, for nearly two years. Her twin brother Evan’s wedding is about to end that streak.
From bad bridesmaid’s dresses, a hyperactive sister-in-law, a mean girl with even meaner secrets, and too much to drink, nothing seems to go right for Emi, except when she’s wearing her little gray dress.
When she speed-walks into Liam Jaxon’s bar, things get more complicated. He’s gorgeous, southern, and has no past with Emi. He may be exactly what she needs to prove for the last time that she doesn’t need or want Jack!
Her favorite little gray dress has made an appearance at nearly every major event in Emi’s adult life. Will it make another when she least expects it?
What does TWG think?
If I could get away with it, I would write my true feelings about a certain character in this book. But, seeing as Amazon wouldn’t accept my review if I did that, I have to make do with calling the geezer a twunt. A sexy, pain in the rear end…twunt. My gut instinct was to dislike the guy, but there was just something about him that I was drawn to. Annoying when that happens…ahem.
In all honestly, my heart decided to camp out with Emi the entire duration of the novel as she was so heartbroken over what had happened, she couldn’t even get over it two years down the line.
I adore that the storyline screamed ‘female empowerment’, and how the main character had a a particular piece of clothing to give her that essential boost. I’m sure that a lot of females who read this novel will be flaunting their confidence boost items from here to kingdom come, and rightly so.
For someone who isn’t the least bit slushy or governed by relationships, I do read a lot of chick lit/romance novels; this one included. There were moments where I felt as though the romantic anecdotes would be a little too much for my rock hard exterior, but oooooh my goodness – SWOON! They were spot on! The ‘Little Grey Dress’ isn’t nausea inducing romance, no way. It has more of a sexy, flirty, teasing sort of vibe with a hint of romance for good measure. For me, Aimee Brown has written an extremely well-balanced storyline; how the hell is this her first novel? I’m amazed.
I did find certain parts of the book a little predictable, but, due to the strength of the characters and the overall storyline, those parts didn’t bug me too much.
A promising, smile inducing debut novel from debut author, Aimee Brown. If this is the result we get with book one, I cannot wait to read book number two. Very, very well done.
Thanks Aimee Brown.
Aimee Brown – author bio:
Aimee Brown is a writer and an avid reader. Little Gray Dress is her first published novel. My second novel is in the works now. She’s currently studying for her Bachelor’s degree in English Writing. She spends much of her time writing, doing homework, raising three teenagers, binge watching shows on Netflix and obsessively cleaning and redecorating her house. She’s fluent in sarcasm and has been known to utter profanities like she’s competing for a medal.
Aimee grew up in Oregon but is now a transplant living in cold Montana with her husband of twenty years, three teenage children, and far too many pets.
